Nextwave has just completed a TV commercial on three popular international games - Bed Bugs, Loopin’ Louie and Hungry Hippos - being brought to India for the first time by Funskool. The exciting, fast-paced 20-sec TVC featured children and animated graphics, with the sound effects and music contributing to creating the excitement. The kids had a whale of a time playing the games during the shooting, and it shows in the film! The TVC will be shown in popular kids channels soon. You can see a peek preview here.
Nextwave Multimedia has won the Intel AppUp Developer Grand Prize Award in the ‘Most Innovative Application Category‘ for their app ‘Comics Creator’. This was a Global competition from Intel with more than 100 entrants. The winner was announced on 14th Feb 2011 at the ‘Mobile World Congress’ at Barcelona, and receives the Grand Prize money of $60,000.
Last year, Nextwave had won the ‘Nokia Calling All Innovators 2010′ - Grand Prize for the same app.
‘Comics Creator’ allows the user to create his or her own comic story, cartoons and photo journals by using a simple and easy to follow application. For artists it gets even better, they can upload sketches, doodles, etc, right away. The app provides the user with a large array of emotive characters, styles of illustration and dialogue box. The user can even save their favourite comic creations in the PC and share them with friends through networking sites, blogs etc.
The new version of Nextwave’s Comics Creator app with many new features is now up on Nokia OVI store. With new tools, this award-winning app now allows the user more control over the images. He can now manipulate colors, edit elements, and so on. Many new and varied backgrounds, characters, speech bubbles have also been added. Comics Creator 2.0 gives the user greater creative freedom. In short, he can now have more fun creating comics and sharing them with others.
Beginning 21st January 2011, Comics Creator will be featured on Nokia’s global highlights. More on that in another blog post.

The ‘Economics Times’ in its issue of January 19th, 2011, carried an article titled, ‘The Great Indian Mobile App’. The article talks about the rapid growth of the mobile app market in India, and how in spite of the problems and the pitfalls, thousands of app developers are jumping on the band wagon. The article then discusses eight Indian apps that have made their presence felt. Nextwave’s ‘Comics Creator’ is one of the apps featured. Readers will recall that in September 2010, Nextwave Multimedia had won the Grand Prize in the Nokia Calling All Innovators 2010 worldwide competition for the Comics Creator app.

We are delighted to announce that Nextwave Multimedia’s ‘Comics Creator’ has won the first prize in ‘Nokia’s 2010 Calling All Innovators’ contest in the Entertainment Category. The winners and runner-ups were declared on 15 September, 2010 at the ‘Nokia Developer Summit 2010′ held in London.
‘Nokia’s Calling All Innovators’ is a global app development contest presenting developers with the task of creating apps that make a difference in people’s everyday lives, and enhance the use of Nokia mobile devices in real-world scenarios.
For its third consecutive year, Nokia challenged developers worldwide to create mobile apps in any of four categories: Life Improvement, Eco/Being Green, Productivity and Entertainment.
More than 1,500 developers from all over the world responded to Nokia’s challenges. In all, Nokia received over 7,700 submissions.
The winners and finalists were adjudged based on the following criteria: Quality/Functionality, Uniqueness, Novelty Value and Innovativeness, Usability/Creativity, and Commercial Viability/Market Potential.
All the shortlisted developers were invited to London for the ‘Nokia Developer Summit 2010.’ The grand event saw some big-name guest speakers, including Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web.
